High School Reality Test
Fourth Term Pack Reading Requirements
This term's reading requirements will function just a bit differently. This term you will be required to independently read only one book from our pre-selected list (for which we have copies & quizzes). You will have a "book report" form to fill out for that book and a quiz to take over the book. That form will be turned in with your quiz (but the bonus is that you can use the form while you take the quiz and it's worth an additional 10 points for the class).
When you have completed the book, you may alert the instructor (at least 24 hours before you wish to take the quiz) and s/he will get the quiz ready for you. All quizzes are 25 points--20 points of comprehension (true/false, multiple choice, matching) & a 5-point essay ("What did you like about the book?). The 20 points are to test that you know some of the details of the story: characters, events, relationships, settings, motivations, etc. and can be quite specific, especially in a shorter book. The essay has one purpose--to prove you read the book. So make sure that essays includes specifics and details as well.
Bonus feature: this quiz will count as a grade in both PACK and in your English class; the teachers will share the grades with Mrs. Chamberlin. You will not have a second independent reading book in PACK because Mrs. Chamberliin is requiring you to do a second book and quiz for English.
Therefore, for PACK your second book will be an audio book, The Shadow Club, that you have to listen to in class. It is related to our Expect Respect topics, as well. You will be expected to do another book report form as we listen to that book in class, and there will be a quiz over that book also.
Students will still be expected to complete an exit ticket each Monday & Friday for their points. Those links are still available here. Remember, those are easy points, especially if the book is read to you and all you have to do is a reaction.

The book supply has depleted over the years. We have many copies of some books and only a few of others. (We have one book that I would rate a PG-13 book that requires a permission slip in order to check it out. See Mrs. Kingsbury for details.) If there is a book that you'd really like to read that has no copies left, you are welcome to seek it out at the public library or to purchase it at a bookstore or from an electronic source (Kindle, iBooks, etc.).
